“The Church Planting Center @ Sojourn (CPC) seeks to see the gospel transform everything by facilitating the training and sending out of church planters in North America and to the ends of the earth.”
The CPC developed in response to the need we saw for a more organized method of training and sending out church planters in North America and internationally. For years, we have been involved in church planting efforts in North America, yet we felt that we needed a more structured way of raising up and sending out church planters. Through conferences, forums, internships, and academic programs we hope to raise up North American church planters from within and outside of Sojourn.
The international side of the church planting center developed as we asked questions about the purpose and goal of missions. In the past, we had been involved in a variety of international missions efforts. However, after much prayer, discussion, and thought we came to the conclusion that missions is about church planting. Consequently, we decided that our international mission efforts would focus mainly on developing, supporting, and sending out missionaries who focused on church planting. In time, joining North American church planting and international missions under a central Church Planting Center became the next logical step.
As we thought through how to develop a church planting center we entered into conversations with various churches who had developed or were in the process of developing a similar church planting center. One of these churches was The Summit Church in Durham, NC, whose Church Planting Center set a great model for us to follow.
