As we developed (and continue to develop) the Church Planting Center here at Sojourn we have had the privilege of interacting with and learning from like-minded churches around the country that are passionate about church planting. We figured, “why ‘reinvent the wheel’ when there are so many churches around that we can learn from?”
One such church is The Point Community Church in Frankfort, KY. Rick Long and the leadership at the Point developed what they call “Church Planting Initiatives” (CPI). If you are interested in church planting I would recommend looking at what the Point is doing. The structure of their church planting residency program has been especially helpful to us here at Sojourn.
They describe CPI as:
“Church Planting Initiatives (CPI) is our focused and intentional effort to be a church planting church. Church planting is a key strategy of The Point Community Church.
Through church planting we aim not just to plant a church, but to plant churches which are committed to our Core Values of Teaching Truth, Worshipping Jesus, Living in Community, and Missional Living which are expressed through members and extended to the community.
Our church planting vision is to plant new churches led by a plurality of male elders who share our mission and vision, who gladly embrace our statement of faith, and who are committed to identifying with being evangelical, reformed and missional.”
Three practical ways in which they seek to carry out their church planting efforts are through:
1. Bi-monthly lunch and roundtable discussions for the purpose of networking, coaching, and support.
2. Quarterly conferences and training events for the benefit of churches in their region.
3. A church planting residency program.
